Percy & Founders is a restaurant and bar located in the heart of Fitzrovia on a site that used to be the Middlesex Hospital founded by a group of philanthropists, including Hugh Percy, Earl of Northumberland, giving some context to the name ‘Percy & Founders’ and it is part of the Open House family, which also includes The Lighterman on Granary Square and King’s Cross.

Fitzrovia is in an interesting location, surrounded by hotels, galleries, old school pubs, lively bistros and cafés. Fitzrovia is right in the middle of London close to Oxford Circus and a variety of high-end boutiques, restaurants and bars. Percy & Founders is one of those eating spots that instantly jump out; stylish, rustic, modern and contemporary and bursting with character! The décor is a brassiere-style restaurant with hanging drop lights, exposed lights around the bar, open planned windows bursting with bookshelves, ornaments scattered throughout the restaurant and bar. High ceilings, wood panelling and chunky elementary seats give a modern and homely feel; you could spend the whole day dining- business meetings, liaison with friends and after a long week, late-night cocktails curated to perfection! Beautiful pictures strategically position to add to the modern décor. Portraits throughout beautifully designed by Pen-and-wash, of Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Chris Martin of Coldplay. First impressions are a chilled, stylish and relaxed the perfect place to spend time with friends over the most exciting cocktail and wine list in Fitzrovia.
We were greeted by a friendly and welcoming host who explained the dinner menu options in great detail. We were served customary bread with the most delicious roasted garlic and herb butter –yummy! This got us ready for the 3-course meal ahead. The host then gave recommendations for cocktails; we chose Pink Rabbit Sipsmith Sloe gin, Cocchi Americano, Rhubarb bitter, lemon, egg white and prosecco, Lady Percy Martini Bombay Sapphire, FAIR. Acai Liqueur, lemon juice, peach bitters and egg white, they were both delicious and visually beautiful. The Percy & Founders hot pick cocktails are; Summer Cup a (jug) Sipsmith London Cup, cucumber, lemon, raspberry, orange, mint, Franklin & Sons lemonade (enjoyed in the summer months), La Vie En Rose Martini Grey Goose ‘Le Citron’ Vodka, Elderflower, apple and raspberry and San Tiago Illegal Mezcal, Amaro Montenegro, Antica Formula & lime-cocktail, heaven!
The starter choices were; Crispy squid chilli & lime dip, very tasty and heritage tomatoes mustard crisp, toasted sesame and strawberry dressing, delicious. Main choices were; one vegetarian option Ricotta dumplings asparagus, spinach and mint, this was a delicate combination of flavour and textures. Grilled corn-fed chicken breast heritage tomatoes, fine beans and fresh leaves, it was truly amazing. The sides consisted of skin-on fries, truffle and Parmesan skin-on-fries, tender stem broccoli, olive and capers a real luxurious treat! The dessert choices were; Citrus meringue, strawberry and blackberry sorbet 2014 Jurançon, ‘Marie Kattalin’, a plate full of heaven! Elderflower pannacotta, gooseberry and honeycomb 2017 Riesling Auslese, Bender, a little touch of paradise on a plate. A couple more cocktails for the road, we chose Bees Knees Martini Monkey Shoulder – Drambuie, lemon juice, honey, egg white and Five Points XPA and Percy’s mint julep, 10 Southern Comfort Black, lemon juice, peach purée and mint-amazing! We were offered coffee and fresh mint tea, what a great end to a fantastic meal.

Healthy options, Chia and quinoa bowl peach, raspberries and toasted coconut, full English – poached eggs, Cumberland sausage, streaky bacon, black pudding, hash brown, field mushrooms, tomato and baked beans. Full Veggie – Poached eggs, squash and kale bubble and squeak, field mushrooms, tomato and baked beans, Galloway grass-fed 180g sirloin dripping toast, fried egg and tarragon and the famous squash and kale bubble and squeak, poached eggs and Hollandaise. All of these options can be washed down with a fantastic selection of cocktails, prosecco, champagne, wine, juices, beers and ciders – What’s not to love!
